Humorous encounter from the hospital yesterday:
We were rounding on our patients in the morning. One of them, who's been an interesting character as we've helped him throughout the week, was laying upside down (with his head at the foot of the bed) in his bed when we went in to check on him. He seemed to be doing as well as he normally did, so we didn't really pursue the matter, and he didn't offer much of an explanation, but it was just kind of weird to see him like that upon entering his room.
But the thing that really made me laugh was what happened when we were visiting a consult patient. Our chief resident was making a quick assessment about a possible upcoming surgery while she was sitting up in bed eating her breakfast. She is a very thin, cute elderly woman. Anyhoo, the resident didn't want to make her lay back in bed and needed to feel her abdomen quickly, so he tried to do it while she was sitting there. As he started to feel her stomach she exclaimed, "That's my bosom...you can't touch those." And then a few seconds later..."I know they're a lot lower than they should be." Aaron (Dr. Hot for those who frequent this blog) and I thought it was very funny. Hope you do too.

burning bacon....
So this past week I feel as though I might be losing it a little bit. I find myself near to tears more than usual (the fact that I have pink eye and have to put these drops that feel like they are burning my eyes out of their sockets is not helping matters) and I am forgetting things that I usually would never....no I am not pregnant. Yesterday was the perfect example. I was going to make some jello for dinner and so I put some water on the stove to boil and then ran upstairs to check something. Well, about thirty minutes later I smell something and I think to myself, why does it smell like burnt bacon??? I am not cooking bacon. Then it hits me, the jello. I ran downstairs and yes the pan was completely empty of water and was melted onto the stove-top burner. Oopps. Moral of the story, water evaporates just as my brain cells seem to be doing.

The fastest week of the year..........
We got to split our time between the best 2 families for a week in a half. It always go by way too fast, but it is so much fun to see how much changes in 6 months. We saw some good movies (Invictus, Sherlock Holmes and, The Frog Princess), went bowling, went shopping, played games, and ate ourselves silly.

Deer Valley....
So it turns out that one of the benefits to living out of Utah is a free lift pass. Deer Valley and a few other resorts offer a free pass to any out of stater that goes skiing the same day they fly in. Since neither of us had been in at least 7 years, we thought it was worth a try and a great way to start out our vacation. We didn't get up to the slopes until about 2:00 and it closed at 4:30, but that was plenty of time to get our quads burning and perfect our snow plowing! The snow was icy because it hadn't snowed in a few days and so we decided to blame our falls on that! We even saw Lisa Kudrow and her son at the ticket counter, Chris didn't believe me but it was confirmed by my friends sister who works there.
A True Ute Christmas.......
Okay, so I married a Ute fan. I knew that at the time, but what I didn't know is how much it really means to marry a fan of any sort. Here are a few pics from this Christmas season. Do you notice any themes arising????
Thanks Heather for the awesome pillow cases!
Chris does not mess around with pancake shapes
My dad's (who is a BYU fan) gift to his two son-in-laws
This is what Christmas looks like in a divided family!
My aunt made my mom's pants and you can't see it in
this picture, but one pj leg is Ute and the other is BYU.

Break the ice.......
SLU had a free ice skating night for all the med students at the outdoor rink at Forest Park. We decided it was time to hone in on our killer ice skills so we hit the ice. Well, lets just say that an hour was not long enough to tell if we were meant to be skaters, but it was long enough to get yelled at for having our camera on the ice!

We finally made it to Memphis.....
Here is what Chris and I did on New Years Eve
(warning, may be too exciting for some to handle)
-Woke up at 3:45 am to get ready to leave at 4:00 to the airport to head back home
-Sat on plane for almost 2 hours with no explanation as to why
-Missed our connection flight in Minnesota due to previous 2 hour delay
-Ran to next terminal to catch our detoured flight to Memphis (totally on the way to Missouri right?)
-Were schmoozed over by Delta by getting to ride first class to Memphis (totally not over-rated...I mean, they give you your drink in a glass cup with the can, they brought us a basket of goodies like twix bars, chips, and brownies several times, and they even took our coats to hang them up!!!)
-Arrived in Memphis where we were greeted by the smell of BBQ the moment we stepped off the plane! (we bought a sandwich because I was starving due to not eating all day but I hope it was not the best Memphis has to offer...)
-Got off plane in St Louis only to find that our 2 checked bags did not make it with us
Lets just say that it was a really long day and it took us over 12 hours and 3 flights to get home. We still don't have our baggage (with all our new Christmas presents might I add) and Delta is not answering our phone calls.
The highlight came when Dodd's were gracious enough to let us join them for a pizza dinner and ice cream (which was a blessing because all we had in our fridge was water and condiments!) and they didn't even mind that we left their house at 9:00 to go home to bed (which I am still regretting because only moments later Kathryn went into labor!) Happy New Year.
