A work in progress....

After 2 months we can almost say that Sam's room is finished, or at least somewhat decorated. I had to finally give up on hoping that I would get HGTVed!

The Riches were kind enough to give us their old glider and ottoman.
Before:After.
Hatty made it look easy with her magic hands.
She was using her sewing speak like dog foot and a bunch
of other stuff I can't remember now.
The pillows were my attempt to sew.
Luckily these pictures are far enough away that you
can't see all my many mistakes!
Hatty and Terry also recovered this seat when they came to visit after Sam was born.
I got it at a consignment shop over 4 years ago and now it has a purpose!Heather made her this amazing frame. It has both the addresses where she has lived, her name and all her stats, sweet sayings and every time I look at it I find something new. Love it.Of course she is the best part.
(Don't pay any attention to the spit up all over her and her sheets.)

Now if only the rest of the house could come together.....

Jiminy Cricket...

So we all know of a kind cricket named Jiminy. He is green and wears a top hat and carries an umbrella and even wears white gloves. What's not to love right? Well, Jiminy's genes have been crossed one to many times because this is what I have hopping around my house:

Doesn't look as friendly does it? I have officially announced an extermination order on them after killing at least 5 or 6 a night for the past few weeks. They must die. I called in the pest control guy and he came yesterday. He was kind enough to show me what their poop looked like and to tell me that they are the favorite food of scorpions. Gee thanks. One more thing to worry about. For now I have a shoe that has been dubbed "the killing shoe". It sits on the bottom stair where it is easily accessible for any encounter.

Dislike? No, HATE!

So I know, my mom always told me never to say the word hate. I mean, it is after all, a really strong word. But when it comes to what is pictured below, HATE doesn't even do it justice.

I hate the way they slither. I hate the way their tongues are all long and slimy. I hate the way they coil. I hate the way they can live underground and climb fences and fit into small holes. I hate that I don't know how to defend myself against them. But most of all, I hate that in the past two days I have seen two of them within mere inches of myself.

Common Kingsnake

One that looked like this just crawled out of the ground in our backyard. Chris was back there measuring and trying to map out some landscaping. I was on the phone with Shayla and out of the corner of my eye I saw it. I may have let out a very girly yelp and Chris told me to grow up. I told him we may as well not even do anything with the backyard because I am NOT going out there with those things. I instantly came inside to google "snakes in Arizona". I want to know what I am up against. After looking at all the pictures I may never leave my house again.

Did I mention that I really really really hate snakes?

PS I don't ever suggest googleing snakes in your state. There are apparently over 50 kinds of various disgusting shapes, sizes, and colors. I probably won't sleep for weeks.
