An Interesting Patient Population

I'm working at the VA right now. It's a lot of fun, mostly because of the patients that come in. You honestly never know what they're going to say or do, or even what they'll look like (almost all of them have sweet tattoos).

There was one elderly gentleman who couldn't really hear, but told me how his wife was plotting to steal his fortunes and run away with a younger man (in his 50s), leaving him in a nursing home. This atypical story was kind of humorous to me, but sad at the same time (sad if it's true, and also sad if he was demented enough to believe it was true). I will also add that he had a bowel disease (Crohn's) that added to the spice of the encounter. I felt bad for the man.

But my favorite patient so far does not have a sad story like that above. He was just extremely hairy. Hairy enough that the EKG leads wouldn't stick to his chest or sides without shaving him. Hairy enough that his eyebrows were longer than the hair on top of my head. He was hairy. My first thought when I saw him was that he looked very familiar. I was finally able to put my finger on it...I'd seen a character that looked just like him in a movie years ago. Do you remember Sabretooth from the original X-Men movie years ago? A spitting image of our patient.
Minus the claws, this is an incredibly accurate depiction of our patient. I can't wait to see who I'll meet tomorrow!

LOVE! You should get your picture with all of your patients and make a little collage. That would be awesome.
